Projector for a 150-inch screen: plan the room before the projector
A 150-inch image is large enough that placement errors become expensive. Start with the actual 16:9 dimensions, calculate the lens position from throw ratio, then decide whether the room needs standard throw, short throw or ultra-short throw.
A 150-inch 16:9 image is approximately 130.7 inches wide and 73.5 inches tall. That width is the key number for throw-distance planning. Multiply image width by the projector’s throw ratio to estimate lens-to-image distance for standard and short-throw projectors.

Approximate derived 16:9 geometry. Manufacturer-specific offset, chassis depth, lens position and allowed image-size range still control the final installation.
Large images make brightness more demanding
A 150-inch screen has much more area than a 100-inch screen, so the same projector distributes its light over a larger surface. That reduces image luminance. If the room has ambient light, this becomes especially noticeable. Large-screen buyers should think about light control and screen material at the same time as projector output.
This is another reason not to rank mixed ANSI- and ISO-lumen specifications numerically. A 3,300 ANSI-lumen BenQ and a 3,300 ISO-lumen AWOL are not published under the same label. Keep the standard attached to the figure and consider the entire projector-screen-room system.
Check the manufacturer’s supported image-size range
A projector can theoretically create an image based on throw ratio but still be outside the manufacturer’s intended focus, zoom or image-size range. XGIMI lists 40–200 inches for the HORIZON S Max. Valerion lists up to 300 inches for the VisionMaster Pro2. AWOL’s current Aetherion family supports up to 200 inches, with the company positioning different Aetherion variants around different room and screen sizes.
Standard throw vs short throw vs UST for 150 inches
- Standard throw: often easiest in a dedicated theater where the projector can be ceiling mounted 12–16+ feet from the screen.
- Short throw: useful when room depth is limited or when you want the projector closer to the screen without moving all the way to UST.
- Ultra-short throw: can create very large images from a cabinet near the wall, but screen flatness, cabinet depth, vertical offset and UST-specific screen design become critical.
Optical zoom is valuable at this size
At 150 inches, a small placement error can move the projected image by many inches. Optical zoom provides a useful installation margin. Valerion’s 0.9–1.5:1 range and BenQ X3100i’s 1.15–1.50 range both give substantially more lens-position flexibility than a fixed 1.2:1 design.
Digital zoom can make an image smaller, but it does not give the same installation freedom as optical zoom and can sacrifice usable pixels. For a permanent 150-inch installation, solve geometry optically whenever practical.
Screen selection becomes part of the projector decision
A 150-inch fixed-frame screen demands a large wall and careful seating layout. In a bright living room, an appropriate ALR screen may be useful; with UST, the screen should be designed for UST light angles. In a dark theater, a conventional white screen can be a simpler choice. Gain, viewing angle and acoustic transparency can all affect the final design.
Do not forget seating distance and sight lines
A 150-inch image can dominate a small room. Before buying the projector, mock up the 130.7-inch width on the wall with painter’s tape. Check sight lines from every seat, speaker placement, center-channel clearance and whether the image height forces viewers to look upward.

- Confirm approximately 130.7 inches of usable image width and 73.5 inches of height for 16:9.
- Measure the actual lens-position range available in the room.
- Use throw ratio to eliminate projectors that cannot fill the screen from that range.
- Verify the manufacturer supports a 150-inch image.
- Choose screen type based on throw architecture and ambient light.
- Confirm ceiling height, center speaker, furniture and sight lines.
- Budget for mounting/cabinet, long HDMI or fiber HDMI, power and screen—not only the projector.
