The throw range is the first meaningful difference
Valerion reaches down to 0.9:1, which can place a large image closer to the screen than X3100i. At 120 inches, the Valerion’s approximate range starts around 7.8 feet, while BenQ’s published throw range starts around 10.0 feet. Both extend to about 13.1 feet at the long end for that image width.
If the room only has eight or nine feet of usable lens distance for a 120-inch screen, that difference can eliminate the BenQ before any image-quality comparison begins.
Brightness figures are not directly sortable
Valerion publishes ISO lumens and BenQ publishes ANSI lumens. Keep those standards visible. Manufacturer brightness claims can be useful for product-family context, but the numbers should not be normalized casually.
Gaming performance is very close on published figures
At 4K/60, Valerion lists 15 ms and BenQ lists 16.7 ms. At 1080p/240, they list 4 ms and 4.2 ms respectively. The practical difference between these manufacturer figures is smaller than differences in room fit, image processing configuration or source-device behavior.
Light-source and cinema priorities differ
Valerion markets RGB triple laser with 110% Rec.2020 coverage and supports Dolby Vision, IMAX Enhanced and HDR10+. BenQ lists 100% DCI-P3 coverage on the X3100i and a 4LED engine. Buyers focused on color formats and laser architecture may lean toward Valerion; buyers who value BenQ’s established gaming-mode structure and vertical lens shift may prefer X3100i.
